I don’t know where to begin. Sorry

I’m stuck, the only option I see fit is giving up my job, I’m a mental mess and work to keep me sane. I’ve met a lady with 3 and then we had another together. Our family is 4 children plus another 50/50 so 4 1/2 kids, a German shepherd (I’ve owned him since 7wks he’s know 5yr old) me and my partner.
I work 38hrs a week and receive a average wage, I’ve had my job 8yrs and need it for mental reasons. My mental issues could land me a life on benefits and not work, but I’ve not done this.
So we’ve moved in together to help with money as things where super bad and I spent a life overdrawn with no overdraft. We did a universal credit claim and it was presented like we would be better off as she would receive £1700 a month,. We recently received the monthly amount at £750 a month.
I pay child maintenance at £66 aweek
im in so much dept it’s unbelievable. CAB said it’s £13000 over a lot of creditors, they can’t relieve my depts :-( all they can help with is arranging to pay them back. But I can’t afford to pay them back
i have 3 county court orders that I’ve not paid a penny on and I’m very scared.
I have a driving offence that I’ve ignored and it’s now over £1000.
my partner has her own depts. She has practically had £1000 took away that it’s down to me to replace. I feel sick,. Sorry

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I can't offer any advice but you could try posting on the "Debt Free Wannabe" board as there are some very knowledgeable people who can probably help you.0

Regarding your UC claim, i can only assume that if you used a benefits calculator then you put the figures in incorrectly. They are only as good as the information you put into them. What you’re entitled to will depend on earnings received during your assessment period. As you have children on your claim then you will have a work allowance of either £512 if you don’t claim for help with the rent or £293 if you do claim for help with the rent. After this then your earnings will reduce your UC by 63%.
I also 2nd the advice to post on the debt free wannabe part of the forum. If you post all your details then they will advise you further.0 -
Sorry,. I get lost in my own head. This is about UC, I can’t afford to pay depts just need concentrating on having food etc.
I earn £24000, I put this in turn2us and the UC calc. An both where miss leading. Even my partner did her own homework and was happy to go ahead.
I have £66 taken from my wages for child maintenance.
I took 2 days off work and ended up with £134 for the week, £60 child benefits. It’s getting to the point I’m skipping meals at work and home0 -
£1,000 difference in your calculation and what you received is a huge difference. Do you rent or own your own home? If you rent is it private rental or social housing?
how many children are on your claim? Does any of you claim a disability benefit like PIP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care? What is your monthly net income for yourself and your partner? If you can give more information someone can work out whether what you received is correct. I would understand if you don’t want to give this information.I know your question was about UC but ignoring those debts isn’t going to help your mental health because they won’t just disappear. There are some very knowledgeable people over on the debt free wannabe board.0 -
We can’t comment on the calculator results without seeing them. Generally the two you mention are accurate but it is easy to get confused. Did you possibly misinterpret the maximum UC entitlement as the payment payable?Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

Social housing £420
4 children
pip - me appeal, but it’s been adjourned. (Pip would be life saving if awarded)
I take a lot of time off work, but this is acceptable by my employer, they’re normally short bursts but impacts my wage a lot. I sometimes need to take 3days off work because I get paid more then I do if I take 2 off..
I don’t mean to sound bitter, maybe it is me and ‘welcome to the real world’ universal credit is either going to split our family up or take work away from me. The feelings go much deeper but wrong place to talk
thanks for your reply’s0 -

Your UC would be standard allowance plus housing element plus children element for 4 children (if all born before April 2017 and all are still children). I calculate the maximum entitlement that would result as £2010/month.
There would then be a deduction of 63% of any earnings you and your partner receive after a disregard of £293?
If your partner does not earn and the only earnings are yours at about £1,350/month then the deduction would br £666 leaving UC payable of about £1,344. The amount payablewill vary with earnings.
This assumes no other income.
I can’t remember offhand but the big bold calculator result may be the total benefit amount which would be UC, Child Benefit (and Council Tax Reduction if applicable). The child Benefit is £274/month which with my rough UC calculation would come to £1618/month which is roughly what you got.
Look at your UC statement and tell us how it is made up. Perhaps there are bits missing or additional deductions. Sometimes the first payment is incorrect because not all the information has been verified.

4 childrenSomething isn't right with your £1,700 as it's sems a lot. My figures say your maximum entitlement would be around £2,000. As you rent your home then your work allowance will be £293 per month, which means you can earn that amount before the deductions apply. How much deductions you would have will depend on your earning received during your assessment period. The £66 deductions for child maintenence are not an allowable expense.0
