Should I wash out all household goods which can be recycled?

I can't believe anyone would put stuff out for recycling dirty! Probably the same people that are quick to moan about "vermin".3

We always use the washing up water and chuck in the recycling items at the end. I can't believe that even those who have a dishwasher never wash some of their bits in the sink, as we do, so there's going to be some water tipped down the drain that can be used for washing tins etc first. It's about having respect for the bin staff doing a difficult job.Make £2024 in 2024

The value/cost of bulk recyclates vary with the average cleanliness of the waste stream, so some Councils get better prices than others. The more we all clean our waste, the less that our waste management costs. Of course as individuals, we all have to trust that our neighbours are as diligent as we are ourselves...1

I wouldn't dream of not washing out food containers before recycling, to not do so is gross, lazy & inconsiderate. It takes about 10 seconds to rinse a tin out and costs naff all in water.
Last year hubby kept "forgetting" to wash the cat food tins, the bin smelt pretty bad pretty quickly.

This reminds me, our tenant moved out of the house and left all sorts of wrong things in the recycle bin. I had to drag it all out, sort it properly, wash the bins which were both disgusting, wash the recyclable items and put them out for collection. The binmen would have rightfully rejected the bins if I hadn't sorted it. He couldn't claim he'd no knowledge of what could be recycled, as I went to the bother of printing off the information from the council website and leaving it in a folder of information about the house. Grrr.
