I'm buying a property and on the Land Registry it is freehold, however the airspace is both freehold and leasehold. How is this possible? What is airspace?

Where's the airspace? Can you show us exactly what you're looking at?0

I've covered the address but what does this airspace section mean. The property is in Birmingham in a residential area.

Has the property got solar panels on the roof?0
-
Yes it has solar panels0
-
In that case I suspect the airspace being leased is the bit immediately above the roof itself i.e. the space being occupied by the solar panels.0

Got it. Thanks for your help!!

Whichever company installed the solar panels are tenants of the airspace lease. Usually 25 years.0
