On the Warm Home Discount issue .
On some Tariffs Warm Home Discount is Offered from you Electricity Supplier, only to find out when you apply only certain groups are allowed to claim when the time comes to claim this allowance . This is not said when changing over suppliers at the offset of your change over but co as as a shock when you think you are entitled to this Allowance,  how can I Tell if I am entitled to this Allowance  with a New supplier as all that is said on the Tarrif offer is" Warm Home Discount with a Tick "
Thank you .

  • Warm homes discount I received this and put on my meter on 4/1 by the 29/1 it had used over £100.
This is a one off payment a year but only covered a month how on earth can they call it help as when the raise comes my electricity will be at £50 per week without gas or standard bills
they give in one hand and snatch out of the other!!
  • I have received the warm home discount for the past 2 years! However, when checking eligibility this year it states that I am not eligible because my property is not the right type? I am a pensioner on a state pension on housing and council tax benefit! Can anyone explain why my property, that I have been in for over 10 years, is now no longer eligible?  Thank you

The scheme changed this year.  In previous years it was based only on income and benefits.  This year there are two main criteria: you need to be claiming a qualifying means-tested benefit (you do, Housing Benefit) AND live in a property deemed to intrinsically need a lot of energy to heat.  They have worked out the property qualifier based on age, type, and size.  It is run through the calculation and then determined to have 'high costs' or not.  Clearly your property does not qualify under this new scheme - many people are disappointed this year to no longer qualify.

And if you know the age and size of your property you can find where it may have fallen in the government calculation in this table https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1115362/whd-eligibility-statement-2022-england-wales-annex-1.xlsx
