Newley Self Employed 2020

After being made redundant in Sept 2021 i have gone back to commission based sales (Insurance). The self employed help schemes seem that they are not for me and I’m claiming Universal Credit. I get £800pm yet my rent is £695. I need more help before i cannot pay my rent (I live on my own). I have been registered for self assessment for years as i claim back my mileage expenses even though i was employed (Not sure if that means anything) I cannot work from home as i dont have any customer base and i cant cold call for the time being...Is there any more help as I’ve spent all my savings over the last 6 mths.

As you are working there are no other benefits available for you to claim other than council tax reduction, which can be claimed from your local council. For your rent then if you're privately renting then this will be based on the local housing allowance for your area. As a single person if you're under 35 then you will only be entitled to the shared rate of LHA which is going to be a lot less than any rent. You could look at claiming a discretionary housing payment (DHP) from your local council. To claim this you will need to contact them to send you a form. It doesn't mean you'll receive any extra but there's no harm in trying. Details here. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/claiming-discretionary-housing-payments/claiming-discretionary-housing-payments
