Benefits of our own water main

Our 1930's build semi is on a shared water supply with 3 other houses, from the water main that runs along the front footpath.  Last year a neighbour had a leak, and we had very low pressure for about 10 days while it was traced to under their old decking in an overgrown garden etc.
Plus, I'm assuming the current, shared supply from the mains to our house will be lead pipe still?
We are thinking of having our own supply fitted and connected, we know its about £1,000 for connection to the actual main (its about 50cm from our boundary line) and the Affinity water contractors who were out fault finding the leak offered to mole in a new supply pipe on a weekend for us. (assumed they're doing it day in day out, plus offered us a better 'rate' using them directly).
What sort of mains pressure could we have indoors if it was replaced?  And any other benefits?  I guess I'm trying to justify to myself getting it done.....

For 1k I would probably have it done, if only for the benefit of removing the variable of the adjoining houses.
  • If you ever decide to fit a combi boiler, having your own supply is a good idea so your own pressue isn't at the mercy of neighbours turning their taps on and off. I was quoted £6k for a supply connection by Affinity so this sounds cheap.

Is this a cash in hand rate? by the contractors looking for extra weekend work?
Make sure you get all the necessary paperwork. Are you having a water meter fitted at the same time?

Sorry guys, I should of said.  We already have a combi boiler, a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i fitted about 3 years ago.

And i meant its about £1k for the application and physical connection to the main, and the workers offered to mole in the new pipe (distance of about 18 metres) for £800 (yes a cash price on a weekend, and was going to say I'd need paperwork or photos of the install - Wasnt sure if Affinity would then look at the work and ask if their contractors carried out the work?)

How much will you potentially save with the weekend cash in hand job?

I'd normally choose to go the official route rather than an off the books unofficial cash in hand job.

If there were a big saving I might reconsider that.

Do you trust the workers to do a good job? If something goes wrong where is your comeback against them?
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

Be saving about £700 Belenus - Id assume they'd do the same job as if they were doing it actually for Affinity Water, just cutting out the middle man
