Moving Lounge Door

We have a typical 1960s Semi and I was thinking about moving the lounge door to give us the option of having a corner sofa and giving us better access to the kitchen (Door opening into the kitchen means we have less worktop.
Just wondering if anyone had done something similar and what they thought of it and is this something I could do myself as a competent DIYer? I don't believe it needs planning permission and I can use a concrete lintel.
Thanks

It won't need PP, but will need Building Control oversight. They will want from you a Structural Engineers' report, showing the calcs required and a suitable beam to use. You can DIY this job if you like, but it obviously needs to be done properly. It'll cost around £150 (roughly) for a building thingy, and - if you are lucky - no more than that for and SE report.I've mentioned this before on another thread - I'll try and find it.1

It's a pretty common change. My friend had this done in her house by another friend good in DIY. I helped with finishing touches. For some reason it was a box lintel, steel.

Mi sis's builder went for timber - two 8x2 bolted together - as it was easier. Better for me to when finishing it off.Her SE gave her both options.0
