British airways voucher

Me and my partner  canceled our holiday to Vegas for our wedding early July because of a lot of uncertainties with covid   and excepted a voucher. We got the voucher in august and rebooked straight away for April and paid a further £129 on a credit card  on top of the full balance already paid for the holiday. The same credit card the original holiday was booked on. If British airways cancel my holiday on the new booking am I entitled to a full cash refund for the whole holiday or will I be issued another voucher for the same amount? If British airways don’t offer full cash refund am I entitled to claim back on my credit card for full amount of the holiday. Any help would be appreciated here. Thanks in advance

If BA cancel you should get a refund back to the original method of payment.
If you cancel you would be entitled to a voucher.

  • So I would be entitled to full cash refund? Was just a bit confused as 1st booking was made with credit card but second booking made with voucher we accepted after cancelling and trying to find anything online from ba has been a nightmare
  • If they cancel you will only be entitled to a cash refund for the part you paid by cash. For the voucher payment you will only be entitled to a another voucher. You won't have any protection from your credit card for the part which you paid by voucher since you accepted a voucher.
  • You chose to cancel the first holiday and used this as a voucher payment - so you'll only get this back as a voucher.

You would get the amount paid by voucher as a voucher, and possibly a cash refund on the part that was paid in cash.

I had an interesting debate the other night with another poster regarding the legal rights in relation to this (but this was in relation to a flight-only booking), however we both agree that having legal rights and actually enforcing them are completely different at this time, due to court backlogs.

I disagree with recent posts. If BA cancel you are entitled to a refund back to the original method of payment. The fact there was an interim step that involved a voucher is irrelevant.

  • I did read if a costumer uses a voucher to make a new booking which is then subsequently canceled by us,they would be entitled to choose a a full cash refund (if the original booking was made by cash) or a voucher in a similar way as before. This was not on the BA site so getting conflicting information from everywhere. Trying to find information from BA themselves is non existent and very hard to find any info on a matter like this

Silver, I believed that a first booking was made, that had a voucher accepted, and then a separate second booking was made, which has then been subsequently cancelled.

If this is the first booking to be cancelled, of course there is a right to a cash refund to the original payment method, but in this case I can only see a right to the £129 refund to a card, with the rest to be by voucher.

  • Given the "me and my partner cancelled our holiday to Vegas" it may be that the OP wasn't even entitled to a refund at that time and the offer of a voucher may have been a goodwill gesture if they hadn't booked a package.

The option was given to us by BA to rearrange/cancel our holiday and receive voucher to rebook within the year
