This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, it's dry here for a change.I'm glad January is nearly over, and the nights are drawing out a little bit.I might go to B&M today for biscuits and see how much their coffee is, it's usually cheaper then the supermarkets, I haven't been in a supermarket since last Saturday, well I had an order from Morries on Monday but that was delivered.Samhartwell don't feel bad about posting everyday little things, we all do it and it's our lives. I know that some of us are having bad times at the moment but I'm sure they don't feel that others shouldn't post about every day things.I did the ironing yesterday - I don't seem to have so much these days as we live in jogging trousers and fleece tops at the moment, and jeans if we go out,. Also made a thank you card for my niece who's sent me some books on CD so I'll post that today.Thinking of Ruby and her family, it's such a sad, difficult time for you all, and others who may be struggling with ill health or life in general.Take care folks11

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread ScarletRibbons.
I am waiting for the rain to turn into heavy snow, which the weatherman has predicted. It was dry yesterday and I did a little tidying up in the garden but not for long as it was quite cold. Not as cold as it is now, I'm just waiting for the heating to warm things up a bit before I have a shower.
Handyman should be here in a couple of hours to fix a leak from the bathroom, when he came to look at it, he was masked but I still kept my distance. Ii will clean before he arrives and again after he leaves.
Ruby, you and your family are in my thoughts, I'm sure that we are all thinking of you.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11 -
Morning all
Thank you Scarlet - I like a look around in B&M as there are usually some bargains to be had!
I'm up and dressed and awaiting the food shop. I've tidied the fridge in readiness - we still seem to be wasting food which really irritates me. I will keep trying with that - I do a meal plan but of course some people then decide they don't want what's on the meal plan...!
Quick tidy round is done but I do need to give the lounge, one bedroom and bathroom a good clean and hoover today and also hoover the stairs.
Other than that, I'm hoping for a peaceful time reading and watching TV.
Food wise, I'm going to make a thai curry and a sweet and sour chicken so one of those for lunch and the other can go in the fridge for another day.
I fancy toast and jam for breakfast instead of my usual porridge and, as always, not sure about tea this evening.
It's absolutely pouring down here and has been for hours so I'm not sure what time the dogs will be going for a walk - I had to push them into the garden earlier!
I've been thinking of those of you struggling with different issues - I really hope you are all coping.
Have a great day all.

Morning folks, thanks for starting us off Scarlet, buying biscuits sounds a great job for a dull Saturday. The cars are covered in a crisp layer of a hard frost so I'll have to scrape it again. I only have a small amount of shopping to do as there's plenty in the fridge to last over the weekend. It'll be a trolley of cakes and newspapers though I'd like to make some muffins too. I've found a shallow muffin tin so just need some paper cups.My zoom meeting with old friends last night was really enjoyable, I miss them all, our lives together go a long way back. I haven't laughed so much for a long time.My thoughts are with everyone here, I hope we can all stay well and warm. Happy Saturday.10

Good morning everyone
Sorry I haven't been posting, I just don't think I had anything to say. Every day is groundhog day here which can just make you miserable. Anyway, I have stopped being a mardy-pants and have got some new projects on the go.
My vacuum storage bags have arrived so I will crack on with sorting out my clothes over the weekend. My niece has asked me nicely if I would knit her a frog as she loves them. Well I don't need any reason to get my needles out so I have made a start on it. I have a pattern for a frog prince which is very cute. I also want to cook dinner as we have had a fair bit of junk food over the last week and my body is desperate for vegetables
I ordered some new dies for my card making to have a play with when they arrive. It is to make some Spring cards as they have flowers, butterflies and rainbows. I also want to make some cards for my family to cheer them up a bit as we are all still stunned by my cousin's death.
I hope you all have as nice a weekend as possible. Take care everyone, xx11 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light, dry and quite a cold breeze here this morning.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and spagetti hoops on toast - they were an open tin in the fridge - and needed using up - enjoyed those as a change. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken, chips, beans and colesalw for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight we'll be having picky bits, pizza, pork pie, ham, hot quiche, onion rings, mozzarella sticks and side salad. I'm trying to use up food items that we have either in the freezer or store cupboard. 2 nights this past week we've had christmas pudding with custard/brandy sauce! I have so much food in the cupboards - freezer is starting to also look a little more spacious.
On to today - will be a quiet day just pottering about - I need to go and get a newspaper shortly though.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Cold and bright this morning, it looks like there has been a dusting of snow overnight. It looks lovely out with the hard frost twinkling away but is probably lethal underfoot.
Original coal bunker order cancelled, hope they refund quickly. I ordered another from NI on Thursday morning and it arrived yesterday morning, 24 hours from phone call to delivery, certainly a great service. I then had to empty the coal sacks into the bunker so was quite mucky when I'd finished which resulted in having to wash all my clothes including my coat.
My walk yesterday was really lovely, went further than I had intended so was ready for my breakfast when I got in, may find a different route today. Really must do some shopping today as supplies are low!
Thinking of those with troubles, especially RR at this difficult time. Take care. XX

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Scarlet and hugs to all those in need especially Ruby and family.
I'm another one who doesn't post because I've nothing to say, I walk the dog and cook the meals, nothing else happens. It's cold and wet here I think we could have snow .
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start SCARLET. Brr it's cold here but no rain or snow. AOD will you keep the snow down there when it arrives please. They were undecided as to whether it would get up as far as us or not. We have had enough thank you!
I am a late comer this morning but I have a note! I have been gallivanting! It was vaccine morning for me. I expected to be met with chaos but it was unbelievably well organised. I was straight in for the jab at 8.25 then back out into the waiting room for the15 minute wait and back in the car inside 20 minutes! I am just hoping now I don't feel as ill as DD did. And my neighbour (in her 20's) said she was so bad she took to her bed for 2 days after hers! Friends who have had it have suffered no after effects so I am hoping I follow suit!
No plans now for the rest of the day but if I cba there are many jobs I could find to do if I felt so inclined! A day with my feet up, snug and warm, reading or watching rubbish on tv is holding more appeal. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. RUBY you and your DM are never far from my thoughts. Hoping MARIE is as ok as she can be. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Good morning, nasty cold rain here ATM, having read AOD's post I just looked at the forecast for here, it now says rain then sleet for a while, heavy snow mid part of day then light snow all afternoon, cannot really see me getting a walk in, but will stay hopeful. Trying very hard to drag myself upwards, 2 walks including shoping at market yesterday, wearing nice bright coloured clothes each day and some make up. Eating too much stodge though, weight is OK, but not good for my poor old tum. My coconut/lemon/yogurt cake is nice, just 1 piece a day each with our morning coffee brew, the new ground coffee is lovely, may buy again by ordering from the cafe, but it is a good walk away. Confession - I have not driven our car for months I really must give myself a kick and next fine day go for a little run to the farm shop to break myself in, should be legitimate enough journey.
OH has gone for the papers and to run the dog on open land, I have asked him to check if the Co-op has any daffs for sale, cheap and so very cheerful.
Went off to make a cuppa for OH returning wet and cold and forgot to click post. Kicked the lap top into life and my post disappeared, just as well I had copied and saved, So I can now add:- good to read newer posts, hope you are OK after the jab TA, Hester good to "see you" news or no news" Thinking of Ruby and family and Marie. Hugs to all that need one, stay warm, safe and dry if you can.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)11
