O/S Daily Monday 25 January 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, cold and very frosty start to the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I;m showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, swede, green beans, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshries and gravy - meat wasn't a big joint so none left but it was delicious. Tonight will be roast chicken thighs with LO veg and yorkshires and gravy.
Was a very chilled day yesterday now back to work - hoping to find out if my time off has been approved for next week.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for the thread nmlc. Good luck at work. There's a thick layer of frosty ice on the cars outside again. I'll be glad when winter ends, not that I'll be going out today.Later this morning a district nurse will be coming to give DM her first COVID jag. I've also got a supermarket delivery in the early afternoon. Such excitement! I also have find proper homes for the tinned goods from the Morrison's food box. In between I may find time to clear out some more stuff, there's at least three fold-fashioned glass lined vacuum flasks which have to go into black bin bags and near the door. It's Burn's Night here but I'll not be eating haggis. There's an online Burn's supper so I'll join in with that.Lots of hugs to all those who need them. Happy Monday too.15

Morning folks and thanks for starting us off NMLC. Blooming 'eck we are certainly paying the price for the beautiful weather we had last summer. It's another bitterly cold start with a thick frost as well as the still frozen snow from Saturday. Not that I will be going out in it but I feel for those who have to.
So another same old day with jobs still lining up that may, or may not, get done! But I really could do with cleaning all the windows inside as the window cleaner came Saturday and that has showed the insides up! He has been snowed or rained off so much recently he is catching up as and when he can. Poor chap looked frozen stiff.
I'm another who is forever changing the sm order. I only updated it yesterday and I already have a note of further items to add to it! We must all be as bad! GERS your Morrison's grocery box sounded good value and if I still had the DGDs to feed as much as I had pre-Covid I would definitely have ordered one.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. RUBY I hope your DB can be persuaded to keep his appointments if only for help with pain relief. I know first hand how difficult it is watching someone suffer. Take care one and all and stay safe xx

Morning
Bit of snow last night so it all looks pretty for a while. Bloomin cold though
Horrible week over so took the time to try and come to to terms with my new health normal. Change what you can't accept and accept what you can't change I guess
So today I'll crack on with house stuff and the usual must dos. I'll crank up some 80s toons and sing loudly and very badly.
Gers hope your mums jab goes well I really need to chase up my mums surgery to get a date for her home visit too.
Food will be some ham jackets and peas ....can I have your portion of haggis Gers!
Ruby thinking of your brother hope he can manage to eat something x
Have a good day all15 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.We don't have snow here but the frost is so thick it looks like a light covering of snow, it didn't melt at all yesterday. We had a quiet weekend, I tidied a few shelves and started another charity shop bag, so that was useful, I will do a bit more today. Gers, you are doing a sterling job with getting rid of old stuff, happy Burns'Night, you mustn't like haggis - I like it but DH doesn't. I know it doesn't do to think too much about what's in it.It's dd's partner's birthday on Thursday and I should make a card, but cards for men can be difficult, I've had a half hearted look through my stuff for ideas, but none have come to mind.I'm also looking for a button - before lockdown I was going to take a jacket to the cleaners, and I knew one of the buttons was loose, but was in a hurry to go out so instead of sewing it back there and then, i cut it off and put it in a "safe place". Well of course now I can't find it. Why on earth I didn't put it in my sewing box I don't know, it would have been ok there. I'll start a search for it today..Ruby, I'll echo TA about pain relief for DB, thinking of you all. Also thinking of others who are struggling with life, take care folks14

Morning all Thick frost on the cars here but none of the white stuff came in the end . DS didn't take the bike back but took some clothes instead the pot holes in the local roads and the weather made it unsafe there is no rush as we still don't have a date for moving nor for the garden being done so we will crack on and finish the jobs to get this house ready for the rental market not much more to do just little bits . Today i will do the beds and tidy round other than that another boring day . Dinner tonight left over roast pork and veg i might do some more roasties as well .
SR stop looking for the button and i bet it appears that's what usually happens to me
Ruby thinking of all your family right now
Hester hope you are staying warm on the boat and Steve is doing ok
Nels hugs for you and I hope that this week is all on the up for you x
Gers great news re your mums jab my area is doing the 70-79 age range from today so fingers crossed we are moving in the right direction
Right better get the dog walked I hope you all have a good day whatever you are up to stay safe and warm xxxSlava Ukraini13 -
Morning all
The snow yesterday is still there and now frozen - the roads/pavements look lethal so I'm grateful I don't need to go out. The dustmen are due and usually here by now so not sure if they are coming or just running late. I think it's due to turn milder and rain later today or early tomorrow so hopefully it will all soon be gone.
I'm working at home today and have a "to do list" for what I need to get done so that is good. I've already hoovered and washed the kitchen floor. I have a load of washing to do but, other than that, it's my day job!
I have some left over cottage pie and cabbage for lunch and perhaps a sandwich/crisps for this evening. I didn't finish all the granola for my breakfast yesterday but there isn't enough for today so I have a granola and cornflake combo! I'm sure it will do the job anyway and nothing wasted!
Not much else to report - I did manage to get a lovely couple of hours rest yesterday in between looking after DF so I feel better today.
Thinking of you all - Ruby, I can imagine your brother is likely still in shock and may change his mind regarding treatment but I do hope he can at least get some relief from the pain.

Morning All
Not as cold as yesterday but still frosty. I've started the car, the windscreen will take some time to clear! I didn't go out yesterday as it was so cold and icy but I did watch the whole of It's a Sin and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Work today then I must collect my new halogen cooker on the way home, will also take the opportunity to get a couple of birthday cards needed for the next few weeks.
Hope your DB is comfortable Ruby.
Good luck at work nmlc.
Hope you find that button Scarlett, I do exactly the same!
Have a good Monday, take care. XX14 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Minus 5 here, with the weekend's snow still heavy on the ground. It is sunny so might melt later - it does look spectacular but so very cold. I have seen an announcement on FB that the bins can't be collected today and I'm relieved. Being at the bottom of a dip, I had visions of hefty bin wagons slithering down, smashing our car and probably ending up in our front garden.
Ruby, I hope your DB will accept some pain relief. There was a suggestion yesterday of a self-referral to a hospice and perhaps that might help, I know that they are specialists in pain management. I am so sorry, what an awful time for you all.
OH is finally up so I can go and get dressed without waking him. Not until I've had the tea he is making for me. I have no plans today, as usual but I wouldn't want to go anywhere as it is dreadfully slippy. I went out to load the birdtable (in my pjs) and had to walk on the fresh snow as the part where we had walked on yesterday is just ice now.
Hope everyone has a tolerable day, if you have snow I hope you enjoy being out in it or looking out at it. I'm enjoying the looking out element.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Good morning all. The snow has melted a bit here but is still on the ground.
Not planning on going anywhere today although we are going to need some milk quite soon. Apparently a lady slipped over in the meadow near our house yesterday and ended up with a broken arm.
I have ironing to do and might get around to making a cake. Other than that it will be a day of sloth!
Happy Monday everyone13 -
Morning all.
I'm sorry to be dipping in and out. I take so long to tap out a post that if I keep up with everyone I want to keep up with most of the morning has gone before I finish..
Ruby, your DB has so much to process in his head that it's no wonder he just wants it all to be over. My heart goes out to you all, particularly your DM. It's all the wrong way round, isn't it?
Stay warm everyone. It is bright and sunny here, but -1°, feeling like -4° apparently. Very cold for down here on the Continent.
If anyone wants a thought for today, I'm afraid it is over on the Garden Fence.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13
