This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, blustery and damp underfoot - wind is less blustery than in the night - was noisy and woke me - but I know we've been lucky compared to some parts of the country.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pasta bake, veg rice and sausages - bit of a combo but sausages needed using up so did the pasta bake. Tonight not sure, I have a cook from frozen gammon joint in the freezer - so may cook that with some eggs and chips.
Yesterday work was ok, reasonably busy but pleased to be on days' off now until I go back on Monday.
On to today -
This morning first thing I need to take the computer tower into my local computer shop (small independant shop with good service and after sales care) as I'm booked in as we've had a problem with the computer - it shouldn't be a big issue so fingers crossed! DH and I have discussed if it's a big problem we may have to invest in a new computer - not something we really want to do at the present time. We'll see what they say.
I'm hoping I can motivate myself like I did last week - and once DS1 has gone to work I can get going with the housework and get it done first thing before I go out then it's done and I can concentrate on other things - hoping the computer won't be out of action for too long.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC, enjoy your days off. It's damp out there, late last night it was snowing, after heavy rain during the day.Yesterday we finished off in the bedroom, there's tidying to do today and we'll borrow DD's carpet cleaning machine maybe tomorrow.Another bedroom could do with a coat of paint, it'll get done over the next few weeks.I need to go to the bank today to pay a cheque in, don't do that very often these daysThat's it reallyHope everyone has an ok day, take care folks.15

Morning folks. My night was oddly disturbed, I seemed to be in a half-asleep-half-awake state for most of it. Expect I'll sleep well tonight. There's a crackling of frosty snow over the cars though the roads look clear. Reports from other parts of the country sound horrendous, it's very worrying.Yesterday I made a little more progress with the kitchen shelving, binning two ready made pastry shells dated BB January 2014. Many many years ago my DM used to bake her own shells and fill them with fresh fruit before covering them in a kind of jelly, my favourites were the strawberry ones. Later she used these ready made ones for speed. There's a bulging bag of recycling to go out so I'll take that later this morning. When I hit a bored spot in the afternoon I'll start to tackle the gadgets and bakeware still under the kitchen curtains. My thoughts are with all those struggling, for whatever reason. Happy Thursday to all.14

Morning
dumpling I'm so sorry about your cousin xx
RedRuby Thinking of you and your family xx
After years of trying for a third baby, our friends had a little girl yesterday morning. So pleased for them. They're in Cornwall so we can't just pop by with our gift so will have to post it, bit miffed about that!
I need some alone time. I'm going to spend a few hours in my little room today. I'll take my book and laptop with me, also tempted to take a flask so I don't have to pop downstairs to make tea and coffee, lol. Scamp has a cushion in there, he can wander in and out for a lie down as he pleases but no humans are allowed.
Before I lock myself away, I'll get a few bits of housework done and hopefully go for a walk. I need a break in the weather though, we have wind and heavy rain at the moment and I'm definitely not going out in that.
I would give anything right now to drive to the sea and eat far-too-salty chips while watching the waves. The closest thing I have to that is a quick walk down to the canal, or go a bit further and stare at a muddy river – I won't be doing either of those things, it's not quite the same, lol.

Morning All
No snow here thank goodness although it is cold. Yesterday was just a cold, damp, miserable January day until about 4pm when there was a glint of sunshine and some blue sky, the mountains in the distance were covered in snow with a lovely pink tinge.
Nothing of note happened yesterday apart from me making a complete pig's ear of the shower sealant, it looks terrible! Oh well, it will do for now but will get someone in to do it next time. I'm really looking forward to having a shower this morning!
I had a good night's sleep, 8 hours without waking, must have been the short yoga session and a walk yesterday, the fresh air really does make a difference. I think DD will be coming over today so we'll have a good walk with the little one (although she'll have to have a short walk, she's too slow for me!).
Enjoy your 'alone time' tru.
Great de-cluttering Gers!
Thinking of you Ruby, dumpling and Marie.
Glad your Dad has his vaccination Nanny, how long until he has the second one?
Have a good day, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Enjoy your days off.
We too had a relentless battering by the wind through the night but we seem to have escaped the worst of the heavy rain. As compensation we had a light covering of snow instead! Sadly those just a little south of us us didn't get off as lightly and my heart goes out to those flooded. The horrible weather this winter just seems to go on and on.
Two parcel deliveries due today (it doesn't take much to put me in a state of excitement these days!) and I also need to update my grocery "basket " due for delivery tomorrow. I never thought I would say this but I can't wait to actually go wild in the aisles of a proper supermarket again.
I will probably clean the bathroom and kitchen today to make the usual head start on the Friday Tidy. Yesterday I was spurred on by GERS following her attack on DM's cupboards. I am pleased to report I have only had to chuck a full packet of suet and half a packet of cornflour. I'm sure some herbs and spices will be well beyond their use by date but as they have all been transferred to little bottles I will never know!. As long as they look and smell ok I will keep using them.
Have a good day if you can folks and when you are all inside your plastic bags we will have a ((GROUP HUG)) Thinking of you all with worries especially MARIE, DUMPLING and RUBY. Take care and stay sane and safe x.

Morning
Sorry for the disappearing act its a tough week for me so didn't want to drag everyone down
Lots of "weather" last night rain wind and finally a covering of snow but nothing major its heartbreaking to see all the floods again its so destructive. I dont live anywhere near a river thank goodness
No real plans today as usual just the normal mundane stuff. I'll do a mushroom risotto for dinner nice and comforting
Gers you are a whirling dervish at the moment I laughed at 14 bags of flour I admit can't imagine having enough space to store them you must be living in the tardisKeep going it will all be worth while
nan and ruby
Take care all and stay safe x13 -
Morning all No snow for us this far down south but boy did we get some wind and rain last night so i expect the field will be like a skating rink when i take the dog out in a bit . Yesterday I was super productive I washed all the floors and managed to sew 2 buttons on DS trousers anyone who knows me knows i struggle to even do that . Today i will do a bit of washing not sure what's for tea yet I need to sort through the freezer as i am taking the xmas food to mums house as there is an empty freezer there and when we can get together its the bigger of the 2 houses . Today I might clean the internal patio doors it depends how many meetings DH has it is amazing how it lifted his mood when he had to go into work yesterday as a mechanic sitting at home tapping on a computer is not really his thing he likes to get his hands dirty.
Dumpling Thinking of you and the extended family at this difficult time
Marie hope your doing ok
Ruby as always you and your family are in my thoughts
Tru i get the seaside bit and i am not even a lover of the beach but as well as the chips some lovely fresh doughnuts would go down a treat
TA We live near a very large shopping centre and i usually avoid it or just pop to the shop i need and leave but like you i could do with just going and spending the day browsing
Gers keep up the good work x
Nmic enjoy your days off
SR Hope you manage the decorating have to be honest Its one thing i dread as DH starts with great enthusiasm and then it reduces to a trickle leaving me to finish off
Right enough from me Have a dry warm and safe day xxSlava Ukraini11 -
Good morning everyone
It rained all day yesterday but it has finally stopped thank goodness. Steve will take the dogs out today as they wouldn't go out yesterday, I'm sure they think they are made of spun sugar
I'm hoping the district nurse turns up today as she didn't come out on Monday which was unusual. The lovely chemist delivered a load of new dressings to try so hopefully one of them will work. Other than that I don't have any plans bar some knitting. I have given up on the Hermione doll for a bit as it is knitted in so many tiny pieces it is going to be a nightmare to sew up. I made the back of a matinee coat yesterday so I will finish that off today. I make them for a charity that sends them to hospitals.
Steve is cooking tonight and we are having spaggy bol I believe. I made a vegetarian shepherds pie yesterday with a load of lentils and beans as well as 10 different vegetables. It was parp city here last nightbut it did taste nice.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good Morning all - sounds like everyone is busily getting on with something, especially cooking which is great to hear and the decluttering is going well.
Here its just work again, meetings on and off till 5 today with a break before lunch so will take doggo out for a muddy walk and run and see if DD wants to come as well. Naughty dog decided to wake us up at 1.30 am for a wee which was really annoying as I had taken her out pre bed at 10 but she wouldn't do one then. Felt groggy when I woke up at 7.30! At 1.30 am I made a cup of tea and put the USA celebrations on for 10 mins which was enough to send me back to sleep!
Still craving sweet stuff on and off at the moment and could have easily trashed a load of cakes or biscuits last night! Something is setting me cravings off and I wish I could work it out! Got round to making some broccoli and cheese soup so that's in the oven for lunchtime today and I have some turkey steaks to use up tonight. I did have a go at a homemade protein bar last night but it didn't taste as good as I thought - oh well hopefully the pieces will be palatable with a coffee mid afternoon.
Will be turning LO steak and ale casserole into pasties today with some LO shop puff pastry to be used up, hopefully everyone will enjoy those. We do seem to be getting through this month with minimal spend so we just need to keep it going to keep saving up as much as possible when we can.
I may try and do a wardrobe sort out this weekend, DD will like that as she is always on the hunt for some 1990's clothes!!
Ok I best go and get ready for the meetings to come......

Morning all
Wind was howling all night and rain lashing down, this morning we have woken to bright sky and very little wind, I do feel for the folk affected by the flooding.
I cant see a lot on the cards today I was awake at 2 this morning for several hours just laying there thinking things over so I am a bit jaded today, will take it easy.
The new wm arrived yesterday, the two chaps delivering it were so lovely and embarassed that they could not bring it in the house for us, OH managed to get it in with a sack trolly and then went back to work, he plummed it in last night and we did a cleaning wash, I have got the first proper wash on the go now, I am ridiculously excited that it has a countdown timer on it so you can see how long it has to go, also it is made in England and all spare parts are available, what has my life become that I am so excited about a new wm
Spoke to my brother yesterday and he was doing ok, he was in less pain now he is taking his medication properly but still sore, he is going over to see his boys today until saturday which he is looking forward to, I told him I have the watches here for when he wants to give them to the boys and he was so touched bless him.
Got to phone mum later to get her shopping list for tomorrow which we will do with ours.
Going to do some tagliteli tonight with onions mushrooms peppers and chorizio, just to use up a load of bits from the fridge, dd will have quorn chicken with hers.
I cooked some sausage rolls yesterday lunch time and wrapped some up warm in tinfoil for OH to take back to work as a snack, he put them on the side and had one and told his workmates to help themselves, he turned round to do something and when he turned back they had all gonehe had only had one, the blokes said they were lovely and they couldnt resist !!
Nels I am sorry you are having a tough week, sending lots of love xx
Have good days all and take care xx11
