Finishing visa in Japan, should I return to UK or go to Mexico?

My Japanese Working Holiday Visa runs out in a couple of months and reduced hours mean I don't have much in savings. Given that I'm not allowed to stay in Japan, am I better off returning to Britain and relying on being able to find work, or going to Mexico where the rent is much cheaper?
I'm leaning towards doing work for accommodation in Mexico through Work Away. I can stay for 6 months and hopefully outlast the pandemic. It is a bit frightening though, potentially getting to the point of having no money while in a poorer country.
It doesn't look like I'd be allowed to enter anywhere else, or at least not easily.

Have you checked out the entry requirements for Mexico?
Have you checked out the visa requirements allowing you to work in Mexico? Does 'workaway' cover that? Is there still a requirement for volunteers in Mexico under that scheme?

Are you aware of the situation in the UK?
  • I would go to Mexico if I were you!  We're back in lockdown here which may make finding work more difficult, so if you have a good lead with WorkAway I would go for it!

I'd go to Mexico if I were you too given the circumstances.

The situation in the UK is completely dire now.

Mexico's handling of Covid is hardly reassuring. In fact be the place to send UK residents who wish to party.

According to worldometer, UK have more deaths per 1 million population than Mexico:

Interestingly, last summer a lot of the South American countries were quite high on that list - with Mexico being the highest - but it now seems to be Eastern European countries.

The data needs to be considered in total context.  Excess deaths at a later date are going to change the picture substantially.
  • I would also be worrying if I could afford health care in Mexico as I pretty sure we don't have a reciprocal agreement there

But # of deaths per 1 million population is # of deaths per 1 million population - obviously as reported (I don't know if Mexico count deaths in the same way as we do).
    And worldometer indicates

Mexico is below UK, France, Spain and USA.

    Very valid point.

    The OP says:

Things can change very quickly in a couple of days, let alone months.

I think it's a matter of Mexico not collecting the stats
