Water Consumption Monitoring Project

I've just discovered that our water provider (Severn Trent) have a water consumption monitoring project (http://www.stwater.co.uk/server.php?show=ConWebDoc.3251) which doesn't effect your bill (you can be on a flat rate or a meter) and pays £30 when you sign up and a further £25-£35 per annum thereafter!
They fit a gizmo to your supply and after that monitor it remotely - so no work on your part for the money
The only drawbacks are the the money is paid as "gift vouchers redeemable at most high street stores" and that not everyone who applies gets to participate. I'll report back on the vouchers if my application is successful.
If you live outside of Severn Trent's area I'm sure that other water companies have similar schemes.

I wonder why they need metered customers as the meter readings obviously indicate consumption.
I appreciate the remote monitor can indicate peak times of the day etc - but can't see why that would be important???0 -
Anglian has had this for over 13 years now called SODCON ,there are about 2000 properties with it, about 300 properties have meters fitted at every appliance that uses water in the property , this is how OFWAT get there statistics on water use.
If you google SODCON (Survey of domestic consumption)0 -
Ah that explains everything!!0
