Parking my landline number when I get rid of my landline.

I had such terrible service from Origin Broadband that I installed a new virgin line on a black friday deal to use until my Origin contract runs out. The virgin line is broadband only so I can't transfer my phone number over to it. I don't use my landline much but I like the number and intend to use it in future as I've had it almost 25 years and it is memorable. What's the cheapest way to virtually park my landline number in the short to mid term? It would be great if it can still receive calls but I would alternatively happy if it was just being kept on ice.

If you cancel/move/park your Origin landline number - which is tied to your Origin broadband - then you will also cancel/cease your Origin broadband service meaning you will be hit with early termination fees if still within the minimum contract period with Origin. Best thing to do is to wait until your Origin contract runs out then move your landline number to a VOIP provider such as Sipgate basic, which can be used over your Virgin service.

Yep, that’s a standard fee charged by most (if not all) voip providers for migrating landline numbers. However that fee can be offset by never having to pay Line rental over copper again as there’s no monthly charges with Sipgate Basic.
  • Thanks both. Origin have accepted that the service has been terrible and agreed to end the contract early. I just need to find somewhere to put my number before I close the account.

Use a VOIP provider and it will also redirect to your mobile if you want
