O/S Daily Friday 11 December 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, damp but not too cold.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was beef stew, mash and veg. Tonight will be something easy with chips.
Yesterday I was quite productive, got most of what I wanted done, and got going with the housework early, so it was done. Visited the SM as needed more milk and there was a £10 money off voucher in a national newspaper, so bought one of those and will use the money off voucher today when I do my shopping.
Today I do have some more chores to do, so will get going with those, but first thing will be doing the food shop. I like to get that done and out of the way. I will then work my way through the list steadily.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC, you're busy as usual, hope you have some relaxation as well.Wet as usual here, we need to get out in the garden and sweep up leaves, but it'll have to dry up a bit first.Camelot, what lovely people you are at your school.Gers, I use my food processor for dauphinois potato slicing, it does it in about 2 seconds, but I use it for other stuff as well, pastry making, general chopping and slicing, it's a big help as my hands are arthritic.Hope the mandoline does a good job and you keep a few fingers. Not a lot going on here, there never is really. I might do a bit of shopping.TA, you mentioning Sparkle and the Christmas decorations made me smile, and I was remembering when one of our cats tried to climb the Christmas tree - chaos reigned, the kids were shouting and laughing, we were, the cat nearly had the tree down, and he knocked loads of decs off.The same cat used to climb my clothes airer, knocking stuff off, and the airer would be wobbling madly about. Happy days!Hope everyone has a good Friday, thinking of the recovering poorly people, and Bella and her Mum.Take care folks14

Morning All
I woke up really early but haven't done anything apart from a wash load, I'm quite good at pottering about doing nothing!
It's damp out today but seems a lot milder than yesterday, the wind would have cut you in two.
Work was incredibly busy yesterday, a local charity donated a lot of supermarket vouchers so there was a lot of phoning parents. Another charity gave us money to buy some children winter coats so they were being picked up too. I also handed over the voucher to the Mum of the family in need, thankfully she didn't open the card until she got home but phoned in tears thanking everyone. It's nice to think they will be able to enjoy the festivities knowing there's food on the table and the children can get some presents.
Scarlet - I use my food processor for slicing too, and grating - makes short work of a block of cheese!
Hope you are ok MM, not heard from you for a while.
Hugs to the poorlies, hope you're on the mend.
Well, Friday again, hope it's a good one for you. Take care. XX12 -
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like eskimosMorningI didn't manage to get into the garden at all yesterday. I had a few delivery notifications early on and they were all nicely spread out during the day, with an overlap with almost every slot so I was stuck indoors. We did get a decent walk first thing so at least I got some time out of the house.
Today will be better, it's mr tru's day off so if I get any more notifications he can be on door duty while I sort my things in the garden. I'll walk Scamp while the washing machine is on, it should be done by the time I get back. Hang up washing, have coffee and breakfast then disappear into the garden for an hour or two. Not much else planned, might watch a Christmas film this afternoon.

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A bit of a drab day ahead I think but fortunately no rain. CAMELOT what a lovely bunch of people you are and how generous of the charities to donate too. There will be a good Christmas after all for the families in need.
Our late trip to Boundary Mills yesterday proved profitable for me. Not so for DD who wanted new curtains for the dining room and spent far more than she intended to spend! In the spirit of MSE I got a pair of box pillows for £20 (should have been £24 each!) and in the M & S Clearance a three quarter length trench raincoat for £12.50 and and a wooly wrap/shawl affair for £5! Well pleased with my bargains. It was very very quiet there and usually leading up to Xmas its thronged.
I have the hairdresser coming late morning to do a much needed trim. I hope she isn't too scissor happy. Before that it will be the usual Friday whizz round with the vac and duster. I have promised myself that next week everywhere will get a more thorough job!
There's no messing about with the vaccination programme hereabouts. DF's BIL (in his 80's) has an appointment next week for the first jab with the second early January Because of where she works DD is in line for an early appointment too but hasn't heard yet of when. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Thinking of RUBY and BELLA. Take care one and all and stay safe. x

Morning folks.Another Friday, tonight I have a dental appointment at 7.30pm 😱 to have the stitches taken out. I'm usually in my jimjams by then! It'll be weird being outside in the dark. Should only take a few minutes.Scarlet - I have a food processor at my own home, here DMs is very old and missing both a manual and bits. The mandolin arrived so I'll use it today, it looks very sturdy and efficient.Apart from going to the dentist I have no other plans. DM is still a little unwell which means she's not eating too much. I'll do all the shopping tomorrow morning.Glasgow moves down a tier today, seems to be a staggered move. Hairdressers and other non-essential shop can open from 6.00am whilst cafes, restaurants and pubs only from tomorrow. Can't follow the logic. The better news is that background music is once again allowed.I'm sprinkling healing dust all around the thread. Happy Friday.12

Morning all well i was supposed to be going home to sleep tonight but mum has a chest infection so i can't so now will go home for the day and then sunday to wrap presents . I need to call the doctor to speak about a SLT referral as mum has a problem with swallowing its mind over matter she thinks she will choke but it is seriously impacting her life to the extent she is more stressed with this than the cancer it has been going on for years but usually passes after a few days but this has now been weeks anyhoo the physio and OT are coming today and then i am free for a few hours nothing much else to report

Morning all
Had quite a good night but woke early for a wee and then lay awake for a while managed to drift back off though. I had a notification on my phone at 11.30 last night that my amazon parcel had been delivered !! got up this morning to find it on the wheelie bin my goodness they work long hours.
Off to the hospital today for dressing change and if I feel up to it I want to nip into M & S for some of their xmas chocs I buy some every year and they are lovely and I have a need for some atm
OH is off today as I cant drive myself to hosp yet so he will have a good clean through this morning, the untidyness is starting to get to me, he does try but its not up to my standards
Maybe pizza for dinner tonight something nice and easy. And I need a hairwash today as well.
Our road seem to have gone all out with the xmas lights this year so I have bought a light up xmas wreath which I have hung in the window and some lights which OH will put up tomorrow, I need to order another wreath for the window at the opposite end of the house, it seems as if everyone could use the extra joy this year.
Bella Huge hugs to you and your mum i sounds like you are having a hard time xx
Gers I hope mum feels better soon xx
Have good days all xx12 -
Morning all and regards to all the poorlies
This morning we are going out to get our Christmas tree. These days we go for a Fraser fir, as they are thinner and therefore don't stick out into the room so much. DH put the outside lights up yesterday and we will do the tree over the weekend.
We also have had some raspberry canes arrive so they need to go into the ground. I've not tried to grow raspberries before but they look like easy maintenance, so long as I remember to net them to stop the birds eating the fruit - assuming they get that far!
I've also been looking for an alternative Christmas Day pudding and have come across a recipe for a Christmas Pudding cheesecake. It includes stout, which I don't like, but I might give it a go as it doesn't look too difficult.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning all, it's another damp day here and I was up at daft o'clock again, hopefully I will tire myself out ready for a good sleep tonight.Well I'm afraid the carrot cake was put on the back burner yesterday and I watched the christmas chronicles 2 instead, so the cake must be made today as the carrots are beginning to look very poorly. There will be a fair few left and they will be chopped up and shoehorned into the freezer somehow. Today I will change the bed and wash the bedding, then dust and hoover upstairs and lastly I will clean the bathroom. That will be me done for today then later I want to go through my xmas shopping list with himself, he will hopefully remind me of anything that I have forgotten.Gers I shall send healing vibes for your Mum and also for you for tonight at the dentist again.Bella I'm sorry that your Mum is under the weather and I hope something can be done with the swallowing problem. HugsRight another coffee and I'll make a start, promise.Take care all, stay safe and wellnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12

Morning all! grey and dull but at least it isn't raining. Nothing got done yesterday predicatbly but I did look up lots of recipes to try to today is going to be busy. I'm making some base stuff to make hot buttered rum, I've never had it but it sounds delicious. I'll be making some little biscuit type things for presents and trying out a kfc type recipe for a friend who has gluten issues so can't have the flour on a regular one. I need to get onion powder and ground cloves but I have everything else. I'm surprised I haven't got any onion powder, that's usually a staple here for coleslaw. I have a hospital appointment for this afternoon too and am waiting for someone to pick up a box of books that I sold. Also have to phone a local charity to see if they'll take the rest of the book stash. So that's my day. I hope the pick up guy comes early.Bella, hugs for you and your mum. Hope they can reassure her about the swallowing. Ruby, little bit of untidiness v making sure you heal properly...:) hope the dressing change goes quickly and painlessly. Yes, I've noticed the proliferation of Christmas lights this year, seems everyone is going hard early...Gers, hope she picks up soon and the stitchs removal doesn't hurt too much. Well done on your bargains TA. Thanks tru! Hey all reading along, look after yourselves and have an effervescent Friday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12
