I'm sure there have been many similar threads on this before, so I apologize in advance if you're sick of hearing this!

Summary:
BA cancelled our family of 4 flights to Las Vegas due out on 20-May 2020.
I accepted vouchers in April on the basis that we could fly the same trip in May or June 2021.
Due to Covid, that now looks VERY unlikely.
They extended the vouchers to flights made by April 2022 - but we would not be able to travel until May or June (IF the pandemic is under control = a big IF).
We have no plans or desire to travel anywhere else at any time.  To make it worse, the ONLY reason I booked with BA in the first place was because I wanted to fly on a 747... and we all now how that turned out :'(
They are now refusing to refund.
So I have paid B.A. £3,225 and got NOTHING for it.
HOW IS THAT FAIR OR LEGAL?
Mark.

The answer I guess, put simply is within your comments "I accepted vouchers".   As far as BA are concerned they made an offer, you accepted it, case closed.  You really can't change your mind now and expect cash.  Ask by all means but I don't see an obligation on their side to honour your new request.

"I accepted vouchers in April on the basis that we could fly the same trip in May or June 2021. Due to Covid, that now looks VERY unlikely." >> Unless you have amazing powers of foresight how can you possibly know that they won't be able to offer you a flight to Las Vegas next May or June?

Extending the vouchers that you accepted to April 2022 seems quite generous.

What's changed since you originally accepted the vouchers?

Error was taking the vouchers, no theft involved

  • No theft as far as I can see. You asked for vouchers and you got your vouchers so you have something to still use.

Btw Lufthansa have 17 B747s for future travel.

  • Sorry Mark but have to agree with others.  The heading is misleading.  BA haven't stolen anything.  You have vouchers for future use.  The fact you have changed your mind isn't actually theft.   What I would do is rebook flights for May/June 2021.  IF same situation, flights may be cancelled and then you may be able to request a refund OR you may just be able to go ahead with the holiday.   Nobody knows for sure what the situation will be by then so anticipating what it will be is futile.    As for the plane you wanted?  Well unless it was concord I could maybe understand your disappointment but would think most planes should be acceptable if they get you from A to B.    By the way am not making light of your upset by any means, just being realistic in a totally unrealistic world.

as with all airlines, the aircraft type is never guaranteed. You could have booked a 747 flight and had it changed to a different aircraft type on the day of departure
