Car Insurance & Legal Cover

Hi
Previously I have never taken legal cover on my car insurance so I don't know what it does and doesn't cover. My car insurance is up for renewal the beginning of October and I am contemplating adding on Legal Cover to my policy. My reason for adding it on this time is because I am potentially going to be seeking legal advice for an employment issue. I have recently been made redundant and submitted a letter of appeal. I have not instructed any solicitor to act on my behalf yet but I have paid a solicitor for a consultation meeting in which she confirmed her advise in writing which enabled me to write the letter of appeal myself. My employer has responded and I have until December 2020 to log this issue with ACAS. My question is can I use the legal cover which would be on my policy from October for something that potentially started (although not in legal terms) in September? Also is the level of legal cover supplied on insurance policies enough to assist me with some legal fee costs?
Help appreciated, thank you

The legal cover that comes with car insurance is generally restricted to cover for legal disputes relating to motoring. For example if you were involved in a car accident that wasn't your fault you could use it to claim from the at fault driver for personal injury, time off work and any other losses that were not covered by your own insurance. It would not cover an employment dispute.
Legal cover that comes with home insurance covers a wider range of disputes and usually would cover employment matters - but not generally disputes which were already in progress when you took out the policy.1 -
As above, you need legal expenses that attaches to Home not Motor.
As the incident has already happened the insurer will not provide representation/cover costs however in most cases you will still have access to the legal helpline that will answer general questions (though wouldn't review documents etc for you)0 -
Motor and home legal cover are seperate.Do you have home insurance? is it included on there? IThe cover dates will depend on your policy dates.0
