Travel insurance proportion for kids

Our family are booking holiday accommodation although our travel insurance policy only covers the grown ups - not the kids.

in the event of cancellation, what proportion of the accommodation costs would we get back, given the kids aren’t covered ? Any experience would be useful.

The policy says “ We will only consider the unused expenses of a person who is insured under this policy. For example, if you are travelling with someone who is
not insured under this policy, we only pay your proportion of costs not theirs, regardless of who has paid for the booking”

Why on earth wouldn't you insure the kids?  It makes no sense as, if anything, kids are more likely to hurt themselves on a day to day basis than adults.  What will you do if one of them breaks a leg for example and can't fly back on the due day?  Hospital treatment and replacement flights will cost many times more than insurance.
To answer your question, if 4 are travelling and only 2 are on the insurance I would expect the insurer to pay no more than 50% of the accommodation.
