Hired by agency but their external payroll company are charging me to pay me!!

Hi All,
I wondered if anyone could give me some advice?
I applied for an admin role on Indeed which was advertised through a recruitment agency. They got me an interview and happily I got the job. Before going for the interview I was told what my hourly wage would be so I had already agreed this was ok. After accepting this position I suddenly received a text message from a company which I did not recognise. I thought it was convenient that I received this message straight after accepting the job so I checked with the recruitment agent and they said that I should contact this company and supply them with my payment details. I now know that this is an umbrella company. I wasnt told anything about this company other than I needed to supply them with my payment detaild. I did this and they kindly gave me what my weekly pay would be. This got me a little confused as the amount they gave me over the phone was less than what I should be paid according to my hourly wage. I asked them about it and they said that it was because of the deduction of their fees. I didnt ask anymore and got off the phone to do some more working out and it seems that at least £60 of my wages per week are missing!
When taking this job the agency did not tell me anything about having to pay fees for payroll and I have not signed any contracts which agree to this. Are they allowed to charge me such a fee when I haven't agreed to it?
The only document I have signed is the assignment document which does not state anything about any fees and it also states my hourly wage.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I would love to know where I stand with this. I feel like this is theft!

Have a little look at this: https://www.contractorcalculator.co.uk/recruiters_umbrella_companies_breaching_law.aspx
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
Thanks for this! I have had a little look and was an interesting read. When I registered with this umbrella company I was required to "opt out of the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Business Regulations 2003".Marcon said:Have a little look at this:https:www.contractorcalculator.co.uk/recruiters_umbrella_companies_breaching_law.aspx
When I saw this at the time I thought this was slightly strange and did try to continue without opting out but the form did not let me. I made the mistake of not looking into this properly and know the implications of opting out and I was also advised to "register ASAP to get me started after the bank holiday" so with that added pressure I did not ask questions. Such a shame as I am sure many others have been caught out this way too.0 -
They still have to pay min wage after the deductions for employer NI, holiday pay and umbrella margin.
What hours are you working an gross pay are you getting before employee deductions?0
