AA car insurance renewal hike

Just received my advisory email of my car insurance renewal next month.
The proposed annual premium has risen 54%. No change in any circumstances, no claims.
I always shop around and first pass research shows over 20 companies matching or near last years premium. So not an industry wide phenomenon.

I'm posting mainly out of curiosity.... to ask if anyone in similar situation with AA (or other provider for that matter), and to ask if there is any rational reason for the hike when presumably claims etc are down......before I give AA a right to reply and then wade through a new provider application yet again.
Hopefully this post is also another real life example and warning to others that it is quite wrong to assume your new premium will bear any resemblance to the current one, or even be in line with the industry trend. With autorenewal, this could be a costly miss.

I phoned the AA last year to stop the autorenew. It was very stressful trying to get through and I phoned several times but I did eventually get through and I stopped it as I was going elsewhere due to the high rise in premium, They immediately matched the other quote, a drop of just over £501
