Hi,
my brother in law lived in a house without a landline. (The place did have a landline socket on the skirting board}. The neighbour on the other side of their party wall did not mind him using his mobile phone, presumably drawing on her system, and this worked well for years.
Quite a bit later he bought a laptop, together with a dongle of some sort, plugged it in the mains and found he had free broadband.
He can't remember what the dongle was. Anyone any ideas?

Reads as a power line adaptor if plugged in to the mains .

JJ_Egan. I'll look into that. Not quite sure what it is, mind you.Quite by chance I've read a review of Muama Ryoko, which seems to be a gadget that develops its own WiFi. You can carry it anywhere, plug in your device and you are good to go. No more asking the code from the bartender.Anyone know anything about this? I could, just could, be what I want.0

It'll need a 4g connection which you will pay for.Did your brother in law have free broadband after selecting his neighbours signal and typing in her password?1

norman_castle,Thanks for replying. Mr Brother in law can't remember off hand. I'll be seeing him in about 3 weeks time by which time he may know more. I imagine that I would have to pay for the 4G connection when I bought the gadget. Chino: the occasional hotel.0
