New Windows 10 advice please

hi, I got a message on my computer screen saying , your version of windows 10 is nearing the end , and they want me to install the new version.
I have read some not so good stuff about it , that it can break printers , black screens, security  and few other problems.
I wondered has anyone else installed this new version of windows 10 and have they had any problems with it ?
I have security on my computer and phoned them , they said i will be protected with their security in place, that i dont have to install  the new windows 10 .
oh and is there anyone out there who has not installed it and how are they getting on without  this windows 10 ?

Install the latest version.  It is unlikely you will have any issues.  Most people don't.  You need to keep Windows updated so it has the latest security patches.

It will probably install itself anyway?

Latest version is 2004. What version are you running?

Press windows logo key and R at the same time. Type WINVER in box and press ok to find out.

But what security do you have that advises you that do not have to?

If you are phoning your security company, then you are probably wasting money on your AV.

Make sure Windows security is active, uninstall McAfee and update Windows to the latest version.
You don't need additional AV programs.

Would help if you answered the question. If Mcafee are saying you don't need to install the up to date version because it will protect you then you got someone with no idea what they are talking about. I'd do as suggested above and remove McAfee and then I would use Windows Defender. I use this but have also downloaded Malwarebytes for occasional use.
If you are using a slightly out of date Windows 10 version such as 1809 then it is not a major problem. Monthly security updates should be occurring anyway although as said above getting up to date is the most secure way to proceed. Many recommend waiting a month or two after the update becomes available to avoid the teething problems that often occur. Its now about 3 months since the latest version appeared so go for it!

I only got the ok from MS to upgrade to version 2004 last week although I know it was released round about May. The upgrade went ok although it took some time to complete.
In case the OP is not convinced about removing MacAfee this might  help...https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6144409/best-anti-virus

No need for Windows key + R.
Click on Start button and type About or Winver.

About doesn't give any suggestion that will show me the exact version of W10 on my work laptop. (Running 1809 W10 Enterprise). Winver obviously does give the version. I'm not at home to see what my home laptop (2004 W10 Home) suggests.

Is your suggestion of About dependant on the exact flavour of W10? (Pro, Home etc.) ... not having a dig - this is a genuine question.
