Locked iPhone

My son has managed to change and forget the passcode on his iPhone. Is my theory that only he could have done this well founded? The phone has not been touched by anyone else physically. Could he have downloaded or granted remote access to anyone to do this or any know ransom wear etc that does this? It had an easy to guess 4 digit code now requires a 6 digit code and is allowing 1guess an hour!
Its an iPhone 6 with no sim running the last version of iOS that was allowed on a 6.

Phone passcodes don't set themselves, lets put it that way.

Yes, only he can have done this, and no there is no ransomware that can do this.Be careful with those guesses, 10 times wrong = dead iphoneIf you have proof of purchase, then call apple - they will help you unlock it1
