Car insurance help please.

Hi, I will try to be brief!
My car was stolen and apparently caused damage to another car (i say apparently as when the person was charged for taking the car the judge commented that there was no damage caused whilst the person has claimed £1350 for damages).

My insurance (Co op)  have said that this incident  has to be recorded on my insurance as me being at fault and it states that i was the driver, even though i was not in the car. Is this correct? I might be wrong but can't understand how i have to declare that i was the driver and at fault for something when i was not in the car? There is no doubt that i was not in there as the police were involved and the person has been charged for taking the car.

Thanks in advance.

Fault doesn’t mean blame... a fault claim is one where the insurance company doesn’t get all its money back. You only have to declare one fault claim which is for the theft of the vehicle.

In theory your insurers could attempt to get their money back from the thief but most people at her majesty’s  pleasure  don’t have the means to repay claims
