New for old Laptop

Hi all. I recently broke my laptop 😭 and have claimed on the house insurance to have it repaired. Unfortunately, they have informed me today that it cannot be repaired and will be replaced. My question is what kind of replacement will i get? The old laptop was used for gaming (amongst other things) and quite expensive, so had an i5 processor, albeit a fourth gen one. The insurance company are saying that a lower spec processor will do the same job. I however, have no idea. I just bought the processor that was recommended at the time. Can anyone advise? Many thanks 😊

Post the model number of the old laptop. Then we can peruse the full spec and make a comparison with a more modern device.

No, just an acer 3, but none were in stock so they are going to ring me tomorrow. I just don’t want to accept something that isn’t equivalent.

They aren't entirely wrong as of course processors have moved on. Though since yours was a mid-range laptop at the time, so it may have a superior build quality. Accordingly, I would press for something in that category, if they offer something lesser.
Ryzen 5 preferable. But minimum Ryzen 3. Same with Intel. i5 preferable, but minimum i3.

Have you asked if they will give you money? Then you can put that with some of your own and get at least a Quad core and an ADD

They haven’t said which model, just series 3. Apparently they will ring me today.
