Car insurance: quick quote based on insurance groups!?

I'm looking to buy a new (or used) car but one of the determining factors will be how much it will cost to insure.  Dealerships state the 'insurance group' but I have no idea how much it'll cost to insure unless I do a full quote; which means filling in make/model and full car details each time.  For used cars, dealers tend to hide reg plates from photos.

Is there a site which will give me an approximate cost for each insurance group without me having to input make/model/registration each time?  I appreciate there are nuances between make/model; which will come out when a full quote's done.  But just a ballpark figure for each insurance group would do.  That would enable me to quickly narrow down which vehicles I can afford to run.

In short, I want to fill in my details once, then either see or select each insurance group to see approximately what each group would cost me.

Insurance group is mostly a marketing gimmick used by people who sell small, cheap and/or low powered cars. It is not used to set prices by most insurance companies, and the correlation between insurance group and actual insurance price is very poor. I'm afraid to get a useful idea of what a car will cost to insure you really have to get a full quote.

Think outside the box and don't restrict yourself to low insurance group cars. A Corsa will usually have a much lower insurance group than a Volvo, but people often find that the Volvo is cheaper to insure. Why? Well, one is popular with boy racers, and one is a car that no self-respecting boy racer would be seen dead in...

Buy an unfashionable but common, small, low-powered car with no reputation for eg catalytic converter theft, and with cheap and readily available parts.

I replaced my group 21 car with a group 50 and the premiums went down despite the step up in performance and the vehicle being worth about 10 times my old car.  The other car we looked at was a group 20 and worth twice the value of our old car and it would have resulted in a modest increase despite the lower grouping.

If you buy a car that appeals to a certain mind set (guess think 18-21s irrespective of their actual age) then premiums will be higher than those wanting a reliable family car etc

As above when it was a 20 group system a group 13 car was far dearer than a group 18 car for me anyway.
Group 18 car was a 150mph+ rocket, group 13 was just an XR3 not even an i or a turbo.
