Their standard “current account” is called “Bank Account”.0 -
Does it not have finger print security?GibbsRule_No3. said:Thank you for asking this question. Until now my basic Co Op account card that is non contactless has been used via Apple Pay on my phone with face recognition. Of course now with mask wearing I have a problem, even with a clear face visor, it does not recognise me at the till. So I was thinking either banks who offer basic accounts would need to do something or I will need to change accounts. Is the HSBC that you mention a basic account or not? Shame as I actually like the basic Co Op account.
If only Face, then I would be dropping mask to enable it and then put it back up.Life in the slow lane0 -
It is the X so face recognition, it does mention a code option if face is not recognised but I just want to tap at the till. Aware of people tutting behind. I did obviously lift my visor, that just proves masks wearing and touching happens more than not wearing a mask. In this day and age perhaps all cards should be contactless even for basic accounts. Not sure why they are not, £45.00 limit or enough funds in account otherwise it is declined so why do basic accounts not have it?Does it not have finger print security?

Apple recently changed their Face ID behaviour for those with masks etc.
https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iphone/use-unlock-iphone-wearing-mask-3787588/Also if it thinks you’re wearing a mask it will give you the option to enter the PIN code after the first face detection failure rather than having to do it 3 times.0 -
I think the reason many banks don’t issue contactless cards with basic accounts is because basic accounts are set up to get online authorisation from the bank before authorising all transactions. This poses a problem for contactless transactions because some tills are set up to process a certain percentage or, even all, contactless transactions below the floor limit for the card scheme offline.GibbsRule_No3. said:

I have 3 basic accounts, 2 with Barclays and one with nationwide. All have contactless debit cards0

I have more than one Bank Account, several with the same Bank and several with other Banks. I also have a major account in another European country. The O/P has every right to open various UK Bank Accounts, and indeed IMHO it is necessary/preferable to do so.
