AMD processors

I'm researching new laptops for a friend.  Am I right in thinking that AMDs go A4, A6, A9, Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 etc?
TIA
David.

Why even think about an A series CPU? Ryzen are the latest ones - the bigger the number, the better the capability. (Same as with Intel and i3, i5, i7 etc.)

Why would you consider an A series CPU unless its a sub £30 PC used for web browsing.

Single core performamce of a Ryzen 3 will wipe the floor of the A series CPU's,  Multi core its a whole new level above
    the A series.

OK the R3 will cost double the A series, but you get more than double the performance increase.

Thanks for your comments, I was just checking, as I'm no great techno, but was more familiar with the Intel ones.  She wants an inbuilt DVD drive, so I've found one with a Ryzen 5, the alternatives were Lenovos with A6 and A9 processors.
    Thanks again

How often will she use the DVD drive? (I suspect quite regularly to start with, but after a week or so it'll be once a month at most). She's being foolish to restrict her options when a USB connected DVD drive will do what she needs, on the increasingly rare times that she needs it.

Yep built a PC for my daughter last year, insisted on a DVD drive. Which made the case choice very limited.

    Used the drive once only.

Just don't make the mistake of buying anything that has an HDD fitted, as opposed to an SSD.

Well that's another question, I think she stores a load of music on her laptop, I've asked her to check how much she has stored on her present one.

20,000 CD quality tracks on just 500GB, fit a 1TB SSD and you will still have 500GB for everyday use.

Light user and less than 10,000 tracks get a 500GB SSD.  I wouldnt go less than that these days,
unless your a super light user.

CD quality? Do you mean lossless? As only lossless would take up that kind of space, at perhaps 30 MB per song.

Totally disagree with your description of a super-light user. I an utilising a 120 GB SSD on this laptop and have access to a decent variety of lossless tracks. Yet they take up just 65 GB. In addition to this, such a large collection {at least 300 GB of music, according to your definition of a super light user :)  } would need to be backed up anyway. So another 300 GB stored in at least a couple of other places.
Will be interested to see how much the OP reports is in use. First of all I doubt if her music is stored in lossless format. I think your estimates may be somewhat over the top. A 512 GB SSD will be more than enough for most. Even less is possible according to the usage pattern.
Your suggestion just makes it more difficult for the OP to find a laptop. Do you imagine that any AMD A6 or A9 powered laptop comes with a 1 TB SSD or even a 512 GB SSD? What about the cost of a Ryzen 5 laptop with a 1 TB SSD?
    One needs to be realistic.
