Morning, don't use it often but have it on my Mac. Opened it this morning and it diverts to the App store asking me to purchase 365. I bought 2011 for Mac some years ago does this mean it is now not able to be used (I realise it isn't supported) but thought once purchased I could use it forever?
When I look at the App it shows a no entry sign across it. Am I stuck with a subscription now?

Do you have Catalina? (Mac 10.15, aka the latest version)Office 2011 is no longer supported in that version of MacOS:

I guess the next cheapest option is to buy 2019. Any recommends? I will also need a student copy for my son at Uni. Or is it better I buy multi licence?0 -
With Internet connectivity, do you both need an installed version? What about using the online version of Office (free I believe), or likewise using Google Docs? Alternatively there's always Libre Office, but this depends on how complicated the documents gets ... it's mostly compatible with Word and Excel (for example) but some features are either not supported or are implemented slightly differently.1

What a pain, I’m still using an old version on Windows 10. I much prefer it and do not want to move to a subscription.
have you investigated using the inbuilt Apple apps Pages and Numbers I believe they are called. I don’t use Macs at all but I believe they can handle translating to and from office formats. Or do you use “advanced” features in word/excel.
The problem you might run into is not having MS fonts on your Mac, these might persist from your old install, if not a workaround would be to buy a cheap MS product that will install the fonts.

Thanks both. I have tried Libre Office and Pages and don't like either. I am looking at 2019, I prefer a one off payment so will just have to find something which covers us both.0
