Domain Registration with Email - personal, not business

I've made the mistake of ignoring this for months now, and it looks like I'm suddenly going to have to find a solution.
The problem is that for years I've registered my (personal use only) domain name with one of the companies that offered unlimited email addresses bundled in. But it seems that nobody does this any more - or not that I can find. The current hosting company just seemed to let it ride - and so did I, because the dozen or so email addresses kept working - even though the Cpanel access to managed them stopped working - so I just let it ride. And now all my email addresses have suddenly stopped working, which is a pain.
So... can anyone suggest a cost-effect way to solve this, without having to buy an expensive business-class email hosting service? I don't really want to go with a solution which involves running my own mail server - mainly because I don't want to have to deal with the security implications.

I have a domain with them, but run my own email server, but they can do it for £1.67/month https://www.mythic-beasts.com/hosting1

My Thick Beasts? Thanks! - never heard of them, but it's fairly cheap for unlimited accounts. May have to go with that, and transfer the domain to them. In the overall scheme of things £1.67 a month isn't bad at all.

So... is this correct? That now if you've registered your own domain name, you really do have to go to some unknown hosting provider, because none of the well-known companies bundle in any email support? Why is that?

I use a free email host (GMX) with my domain name. The only issue is authenticating with SMTP servers to send mail from my domain. Ive set this up with my domestic ISP (Sky), so everything works perfectly at home. I can't send emails from my domain when I'm away from the house, though.

I couldn't say with conviction that it was their fault - it's just one of those things that happens as plans change. Thanks for the suggestions - in the end I went with the Mythical Beasties - no problems so far, and they have been responsive to the questions I had for them.
