Hi, I'm not great with IT, so I've come to ask for recommendations. I want a laptop or similar. I need it for writing documents, printing, Facebook, online research. My budget is around £300. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

Don't go for Office 365 if you can avoid it ... you have to pay for it every year.

A few weeks ago to replace an old Acer, very happy with it, I do basic tasks like using Libre Office, surveys, browsing online. It's brilliant for Zoom, much better than my tablet.

In the past I've used Microsoft Office. Up until recently I've had an iPad. It's packed in now and I want something that is easier to type on. I'm open to suggestions.

You could always get another iPad and add a bluetooth keyboard case. It's still a long way from the best typing experience, but with a laptop you'll lose other benefits, like size, weight, ability to use as a reader etc.  Just a thought, I imagine you've thought this through already though.

The laptops posted above do both look like good buys for your budget.

A fair few complaints about the poor screen and thermal throttling.

Still looking if.anyone can help. I was going to buy the one suggested above by KxMx but they're out of stock 😭. Can anyone help please?

We recently bought a hp laptop from Curry's for £300 for our daughter during lockdown. It was recommend by a friend of our who into it and put all the software she would need on it. We had to buy this as we thought she would need it for blended learning and her notebook had no memory on it.

For basic word processing and spreadsheets I use cloud based Google docs. Very easy to use and backs up online automatically. Alternatively use Libre Office if you want something more like Microsoft Office. Both are free.

Hi, I'm tempted by your post/link, ideally I'd like a laptop with dvd drive, but they're difficult to find, so considering your model and would buy an external dvd drive.
