Hello.
I changed my last name on my bank account today.
I handed the cashier my deed poll and passport and she took copies of them, filled out a form, asked me questions like am I single etc and then sent all the stuff to her 'head office' for approval.  She gave me a letter and on it it said it can take up to 3 working days for my name to change and I'll get a text messages confirming when it's done... Wat does head office do? Why do they need to get involved?

Still feeling nervous about it all and just want it over with.
Is this standard procedure for a name change? Thanks.

They will arrange for the change of name - Head Office or a Department specialising in change of names - its just a turn of phrase. They will check the document to make sure it is  set out and signed correctly.
