My friend's daughter is 21. She has had some private trauma in her life that's affected her ability to complete further education but she's managed to do the odd part time work in shops etc. She was out of work before c19. And is now obviously in a situation unemployment is going to be a little longer than anticipated. She's made application on line for unemployment benefit and has been turned down based on insufficient NI contributions. It seems astounding to me that she is not entitled to any help at all. In her rejection they was not in the slightest forth  coming with any alternative options. She lives with her mother on a single income. Can anybody advise of options she may be entitled to. Many thanks in advance.

Universal Credit needs to be claimed.

She tried to claim new style JSA which is based on NI contributions in the previous two tax years.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

She'll receive £342.73 standard element  per month under 25 rate. Be aware that the standard allowance rate for UC has been increased due to Covid19 and that amount is only in place until April 2021. After this it will be reduced to approximately £255 per month (under 25)
If she's unable to work because of a health condition then she'll need a fit note from her GP to claim limited capability for work under UC. There are a lot of jobs going at the moment picking and harvesting crops, is she able to apply for these? It’s hard work, but outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine, and doesn’t require and academic ability.
