Do you still get an NI number automatically?

My brother turns 16 at the end of June. Is it still the case NI numbers are sent automatically? Or does he need to apply? Thanks.

As long as you have not had him hidden in the cellar for the last 16 years you should be getting it any time.

Still got my National Insurance card that they used to send out back in the day.  Not that I need it since I know the number off the top of my head.

I know mine for some reason too no idea why as I have never used it much and not for about 15 years.
  • No worries. I’ll let my Mum and brother know. His 16th birthday is 15 days away so I’ll see if it arrives.
