Recovering losses from 3rd party

Hi
I was in an accident in February. My vehicle was written off and I had some physio.
The other party's insurer has apparently been unresponsive / not admitted liability. Not sure if they've made any response whatsoever.
In March, my claims team said they've given them a specific, 12 week time frame.
I've emailed my insurer but not heard full info.
But what is this final 12 week thing called? I remember they said a name for it.
And does it go to court then or do they basically just pay out at the final hour?
Thanks
