ordering laptops from XMG in germany

i'm looking at getting a laptop that pcspecialist call the nova 15.6" (its actually made by Clevo) but i have found the same chassis being sold by XMG in german under the name apex 15 and it looks like specced out the same it should be cheaper by around £200-300 (depending on exchange rate) but i am unsure as to how tax works when importing things from germany XMG say their price includes tax (for my specification €354.29 VAT) but would i be expected to pay vat or import in the UK?

Sounds a large saving if your sure the parts are a direct match.   Check the reviews for bestware.com not great.

Whilst we're still in the EU there's no import duty to pay. You will pay VAT but only once at the German rate (which is prob the same as UK)

OP, you won't pay any additional VAT/import on any purchases from EU just yet. To maximise the savings I would use a forex commission free card such as the Halifax Clarity card.

We are no longer in the EU but as we are in the transition period the rules on importing goods from the EU have not changed.
Until any rule changes happen if you buy something from the EU there is no import duty or VAT to pay on import.  You pay VAT at the time of purchase (just like buying anything in the UK) at the rate of the country vendor is located in.

I used to buy quite a lot of stuff from Germany. UK VAT is 20% and German is 19%. I know it used to confuse me because after the currency conversion it was always a bit out and then I realised it was a difference in VAT rates.

Thought the prices looked very similar, bit noted the cheap price for XMG was a lower spec from the start.
Didnt do a full comparison as the OP didnt put the exact spec.

Need to know exactly whats going in.
