Refresh button locks me out of the site, how to avoid?

Apparently Tesco release click and collect slots at midnight. If you log on near midnight you are likely to be in a queue to get on the site and by the time you get on the site all the slots have gone. On a number of occasions I have logged on about 11:35, kept the sit active but in order for the new dates to be displayed at midnight it is necessary to refresh the page but I am then locked out of the site and put back in the queue, when I get back on, usually in about 10 min, I do not need to sign back on so I assume I have not been timed out but again all the slots have gone. The Tesco site does not state how long the wait is to get onto the site, it just refreshes automatically. I try to be very quick at refreshing as soon as it is 00:00 but am always put back to in the queue. Please can anyone give me any ides of what I can do to avoid this. Thank you

Dont refresh as that disconnects the session and starts a new log on .

If the website is operating a queue system, then you manually refreshing the page is akin to deciding you don't want to queue. So same as any other queue in the UK, you drop out and want back in, you go to the back. You shouldn't have to manually refresh the page, that defeats the whole point of queuing, it lets you on when there is capacity. If this behaviour only happens in the one browser, try another one just for tonight. Ie if you're using Firefox today, set up Google Chrome and see if the pattern follows itself tonight. If it fixes itself, you have an issue with your first browser which may be extension related.2

Thank you for taking the time to reply and for your advice. I tried a different browser but unfortunately the site would not update automatically with the new date at midnight. I tried using the ‘ book a slot ‘ button but this put me in a queue, again when I was allowed back on the site I did not have to log on. I will keep trying other methods.0

What browser are you using? I use Chrome and you can tell that the website is refreshing every now and then because the screen kind of flickers for a split second and you can see the web address in the very bottom left while it reloads. It will keep doing that and taking you to the holding page until you finally get a 'place' in the shop. I'm not sure if you're expecting it to but it doesn't suddenly let you in at midnight, and the page will probably refresh itself (flicker) many times before you get in. You just have to wait. If you are manually refreshing the page at midnight or at any point, you will be taking yourself to the very back of the queue each time.
The process is like this for me:
Log onto Tesco site around 11.35pm. Potter around, add a few things to the basket.
11.45pm - go to the 'book a slot' page. Randomly refresh it a few times.
11.50pm (ish) - you get a message saying you're now in the queue.
Sit and DO NOTHING in that window. The window will refresh itself periodically.
00.00 - nothing happens. Don't refresh.
00.01 - nothing happens. Don't refresh.
00.02.... you get the point. Don't refresh.
Some time after midnight, usually betwen 00.05 and 00.15 for me, the page will suddenly change to the slot booking page. Then you proceed as normal and place your order.1 -
Thank you rach_k. I had been doing very much what you suggest logging on at about 11:35 etc but but the page did not update after 00:00 I had assumed I needed to click the book a slot again which is when I was put back in the queue. I will try again.0
