Car Insurance Companies that you can phone if you do not do internet

Hi,

My 80+ year old godmother has just had a renewal through from CoOp who she has been with forever for £660 on he 6 year old Kia Picante which seems a little excessive as she has max no claims and does about 20 miles a year.   I've tried looking around online to find some other insurers you can phone with little success other than Directline. Can anybody point me in the direction of any other companies that still have phone lines?  the ones I've tried like Hasting and Admiral just seem to cut you dead saying go to our website this may just be a Corona virus thing I guess as they say they are closed and opening hours are well within when you are phoning !

Are there any comparison sites that do phone calls?

She is very independent and wont let me do an online one for her or if I did she would want to be sat next to me when I did it which isn't possible with social distancing at the moment.

thanks in advance

I would have thought there will be insurance brokers still operating who can do this over the phone.

Brokers are still working, from home.

Her age and low miles per year will be the two risk factors.

Have you offered to use a comparison site for her?

As a starting point, it might be worth putting the details into a comparison website to see if £660 is a reasonable premium.

If you're not sure of precise details, it's probably better to 'anonymise' the details initially (different name, with similar address, similar DoB, etc) - just to get a rough idea of premiums, and decide whether it's worth investigating further.

FWIW, I had a similar discussion with an 80+ year old. Looking at the cost of insurance, servicing, road tax, MoT etc, and how infrequently they used the car, it would have worked out cheaper to sell the car and use taxis. (Not to mention the standard of the 80+ year old's driving!)

Sadly insurers bank on people not renewing, I do my parent's financial affairs with consent and saved them loads over the years. This was spurned when they were charged over 600 quid for basic home insurance with no claims for more than 10 years, shocking they rip off the elderly and also being charged 50 quid a month for fibre for years  with no haggling.
