Air Mauritius and Virgin Australia have been put into voluntary adminstration. I'm due to return from Mauritius in 3 weeks. Not sure what my options are yet.

I assume the Australian government asked their residents to return home as soon as possible a few weeks ago?1

If you are a U.K. citizen and needing to get back to the U.K. from Mauritius, respectfully you should have instigated this plan weeks ago when our Government told people to do so.fabfor said:Air Mauritius and Virgin Australia have been put into voluntary adminstration. Either way i suspect the Aussies issued similar guidance.0 -
Foreign Office advice from 23rd March:
- all British travellers abroad who are usually based in the UK advised to return now
- international travel is becoming highly limited with the further closure of air routes, land borders and domestic restrictions introduced daily
- British travellers should contact their tour operator or airline now. Commercial flight options are still available at present
Why have you waited until now, when commercial flight options are running out?1 -
Please assume that I'm a responsible adult and not a juvenile to be scolded in the style currently in vogue on social media and that I had very good reasons for not returning sooner.
My reasons for starting this thread were, firstly, to inform any interested parties and, secondly, in the hope of garnering useful information such as what are the general rules governing this scenario; how might the fact that Air Mauritius is a national airline affect outcomes; does it take weeks or months (typically) for the adminstrators to outline the new plan, etc..
In other words, any constructive advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

The only option I see is wait.fabfor said:Air Mauritius and Virgin Australia have been put into voluntary adminstration. I'm due to return from Mauritius in 3 weeks. Not sure what my options are yet.
You could buy another flight (if you can) but that extra money would be wasted if the VA flight flew.

Thanks, life goes on. My flight to the UK is still on the schedule so I'll just wait and hope, as you suggest. For the record, South Africa airways is also now under administration.0

The airline has cancelled all international flights until 15th May so possibly after your intended date of return? That date may change depending on the decisions of the administrators who will have to identify a commercial proposition and find investors willing to proceed, and that may not be easy0

Unless there's funding for the Company. The administrators aren't going to be a position to keep even profitable routes open. Not going to be any great demand for airlines or aircraft at the moment in termd of buyers. If money is owed to airports for landing fees, fuel companies, etc. Then the danger is that the aircraft themselves will end up being impounded overseas.fabfor said:how might the fact that Air Mauritius is a national airline affect outcomes; does it take weeks or months (typically) for the adminstrators to outline the new plan, etc..0
