Self employed/Universal credit

My partner is self employed and no longer working because of corona pandemic. He hasn’t applied for universal credit because he thinks it may effect his self employment claim. Is this true?

If you mean the self employment grant then no it won't affect that. When he does receive the grant it will most likely reduce your UC to zero for that month and possibly affect the following months UC but it will depend on how much you receive.

A claim for UC will end any tax credits you may already be claiming. Council tax reduction can be claimed from your local council.

Will  UC and government grant affect our credit rating do you know in relation to mortgages loans etc in the future

The government are encouraging people to claim UC if necessary while they wait for the grant.

You can make a claim for Universal Credit while you wait for the grant, but any grant received will be treated as part of your self-employment income and may affect the amount of Universal Credit you get. Any Universal Credit claims for earlier periods will not be affected.
