My partner is self employed and no longer working because of corona pandemic. He hasn’t applied for universal credit because he thinks it may effect his self employment claim. Is this true?

If you mean the self employment grant then no it won't affect that. When he does receive the grant it will most likely reduce your UC to zero for that month and possibly affect the following months UC but it will depend on how much you receive.Do be aware of the minimum income floor for the self employed when claiming UC (if it applies to you) https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/on-universal-credit/how-the-minimum-income-floor-works-if-youre-self-employed/A claim for UC will end any tax credits you may already be claiming. Council tax reduction can be claimed from your local council.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-schemeYou can make a claim for Universal Credit while you wait for the grant, but any grant received will be treated as part of your self-employment income and may affect the amount of Universal Credit you get. Any Universal Credit claims for earlier periods will not be affected.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
