people who live with shielded member

I have been sent a letter from the gov/nhs that i have to shield myself for 12 weeks. No problem with getting paid as I can work from home. My son lives with me and we don't have many rooms or extra bathroom/toilet. He has stopped working due to concern about my health. He can't work from home he is classed as essential worker. The employer can't provide PPE, which make it very riscky for me. His employer told him is not entitled to furlogh and Sickness benefit as rightly so he is not sick. I read on the information if someone is looking after their children they can be put on furlough. Are there any exeption for people like my son?

Furloughing is entirely the decision of the employer. If work is available then being furloughed won't be an option. He can look at claiming Universal Credit providing he doesn't have savings/capital of more than £16,000.

I'm shielding and my wife is still working in a care home.
You don't need additional bathrooms, just common sense when the non shielding people use your existing one.
I've moved to a separate bedroom and only venture out to use the kitchen (people should employ the same system as the bathroom)
I have a desk with my work laptop and spend the majority of time there.
When he is working then you can still use the rest of the house.1 -
Highly unlikely to be allowed to furlough in these circumstances as he is a key worker and has very little rights as it’s not himself that needs to shield.1

Official advice says if you live with someone shielding you are not expected to do so yourself;

Just minimise time spent in shared spaces and up the cleaning and personal hygiene.1
