Sensible approach if you failed Furlough due to starting a job in March

I signed an employment contract on 11th February, my employer stating my start date in March. This means he cannot put in for Furlough for me. Is there any way individuals can apply for 80% of salary indeptendantly. HMRC will have my tax paying history on file and will see my employment. I can also provide a copy of the employment contract. Universal Credit is impossible to get, so I have no income whatsoever at the moment.

I think the only solution is to ask your previous employer to return employ and furlough you. It’s a massive gap lots are falling into0

Thanks. My issue is that I finished my last job in January, and was looking for a new job in February, so I was not on their PAYE for February. I contacted them and they looked into it for me. This was not possible. I talked to Unite the Union and they are pushing for individuals to apply due to a persons life record of tax payments. But nothing has happened yet. So many people have falled through the cracks. I have paid taxes my whole life, and now through no fault of my own, I am exempt. So many people are suffering.
