Hamburg was for many years famous for its red-light district.
It also stands as a monument to the effectiveness of RAF bombing.0 -
Dont think the mrs will be too keen on the first idea, although i could have a look.

It is 59 years since I was there so I expect it has changed a bit.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

I lived in Hamburg for a while.
It's an interesting city to visit, it's one of the largest container ports in the world, there are three lakes in the city centre which are worth visiting, the largest is Outer Alster. Alongside the kleine Alster is a shopping arcade.
The Reeperbahn (red-light district) has been cleaned up since it's heyday, and is full of music clubs, bars and restaurants. Somewhere here is the club where the Beatles played way back, but I can't remember which one it is.
The port is fascinating and there use to be boat trips along the Elbe, I'm sure they are still running them. The Speicherstadt warehouse district is huge and is well worth visiting.
Hamburg was totally devastated by the bombs in the Second World war, but has been rebuilt beautifully, and there are many museums which you can visit if you have time. Or want to!
There is plenty of shopping, but Hamburg is fairly expensive, and in January can also be very cold.
Eating out is an experience, there are so many places to choose from, you need to shop around a bit as some places can be expensive, but there are cheaper eateries.coffeebean0
