Agency staff and the 80% govt pay

I was an agency worker for British Airways and was laid off on Monday due to the effects of the corona virus. I was on full time hours. I contacted Shorterm (my agency) who said that because we are agency and not an actual employee of British Airways of Shorterm that I am not in fact entitled to the 80% pay govt scheme. Can someone shed some light on this? I paid my taxes like everyone else and I have a payroll number on the government website.

You aren't entitled to the 80%, your employer might be able to claim the 80% grant in order to avoid making you redundant, but they are under no obligation to claim the grant

I think it is because agency workers, although paid through PAYE, are not actually employed by the agency.  I am hoping that when the details are finally confirmed that there may be something the agency can do, but in the meantime I would apply for Universal Credit and housing benefit.

I work as a Pa for someone with direct payment. She told me last Thursday no longer need it to work because off this corona virus. She said keeping her son at home who I work with. Messeged her about my wage but no much got back. Anyone can help please?

What does your contract say?
