Wedding cancelled advice please

Hi, my sister has had her wedding booked at a venue for 2 years. It was due to be at the end of May.
With all that is going on, her venue contacted her this week and told her they may not be able to do her wedding and advised her to cancel. 
They said this was due to Their concerns over staffing levels and getting food. When she enquired about moving dates to next year however, they have said she will owe them an extra £2000 for the privilege and also will have to pay 2021 price for food as technically they haven't cancelled, just advised cancellation.
 Is there anything they can do please or do they just have to accept this?

Whatever you do do not say you will cancel.
Make them confirm that they are cancelling!!! Get it in writing. If they cancel they are liable refund the full amount. 
What does your terms and conditions say?

Firstly do they have insurance?

Secondly at this point do not cancel on their whim, if she cancels then yes they will have to fork out for the extra charges etc (disgraceful in my opinion but lots of venues are doing this or telling couples they will have to marry midweek etc).

Its unlikely the wedding will go ahead, we know that realistically but just holding on at the moment in my opinion is the best option.
