I booked a non-refundable room in a hostel. Any chance of getting the money back?

As the title. I'm supposed to be going to Cape Town in April but obviously can't be there. When I booked I selected the non-refundable option... Would quite like some of that money back as it was about ~£250 for two of us.
Wondering if I can charge back on my credit card, or should I try to negotiate? It's not covered on my travel insurance I believe as it all stems from coronavirus.

No, you can't charge back on your credit card.
You can ask for the retailer for some goodwill, but that's all.
You'll get a refund if the provider cancels the trip.0
