French ski holiday cancelled advice

Good morning, this is my first post and I am after some advice. I am currently on the way home from a ski holiday in France that was cut short. We arrived Saturday afternoon and found our in the night that all non essential business would be closed. As a result Inghams have arranged transport home and we are today on the way home. As a result of this I have lost 5 nights of accommodation, ski hire and lift passes all of which have not been used. Inghams Have said on their website they would not be issuing refunds due to it being out of their control. My insurance cover curtailment however the exception on there appears to void this scenario as it states any restriction imposed by government. As a result we are now out of pocket for quite large portion of an unused holiday. Would I be able to reclaim some of the holiday under the consumer credit act. It was paid for with a credit card. Thank in advance for all your help.

why not give it a try, it wont cost you anything and I don't see you have any other choice.
Have you asked inghams if they would let you use the remaining 5 nights accommodation at a later date ?
Have a read of the Coronavirus FAQ, you had a read of the inghams twitter page ?
  • Thank you for the reply. Haven’t spoken with Inghams yet the reps were unable to help and we’ve only just arrived in uk but will be calling them to discuss. The FAQ basically say no. I will try through Halifax and hopefully I’ll have some joy

The response to this question tells me differently
Will I be entitled to a full refund if Inghams has to cancel or make a significant change to my holiday due to the Coronavirus outbreak?

I suppose you could argue that fits my circumstances however the Question above seems to go against us:

Will I be entitled to a full refund if Inghams has to curtail my holiday?

If your holiday has to be curtailed while you are in resort due to circumstances beyond our control, refunds will not be made for any unused portion of your package holiday, travel or accommodation arrangements which is not attributable to any failure on our part or the part of our suppliers to provide these services.

We will of course ensure that arrangements are in place to bring you back to the UK, but any claims should be made under your own travel insurance policy for any refunds of your travel, accommodation, and any other special activities, excursions or other services of your package holiday contract.

We’ve just arrived home after a 18 hour journey so I’ll be ringing around tomorrow to see what’s what.
