Best credit card to cover funeral

Hi
It looks likely that I will need to use a credit card to temporarily cover the cost of a funeral whilst awaiting the insurance / funeral policy to pay out. That's if the company won't work with the undertakers
I should have reasonable credit rating pay bills have credit without debt. I work. Not in current debt. Last loan was cleared over 6 years ago.
What do I look out. Just want to look at the options with a calm head rather than panic . Cost is expected to be 3-4 k and will be paid if IN FULL as soon as payout. Then back to being a cash only person

A card with 0% on purchases.0

There's a credit card eligibility checker on the MSE main site at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/ . (Scroll down to the heading "Tools and Calculators", and it's in the middle column.) Run through that and see what it throws up. Unless you already know that the undertaker accepts American Express, don't go for that. MasterCard and Visa are both pretty much universally accepted, so one of them is likely to be a safer option. As zx81 has said, one offering 0% on purchases will be a good idea. (There's no point in a balance transfer card, say, unless you have a balance to transfer.)
Edit: There's a possibility that the credit limit might possibly be an issue for you. My recent experience is that I've been offered higher credit limits on Visa cards than MasterCard. I think that this is a function of the credit card issuers rather than Visa or MasterCard, though, so it's probably pure coincidence. If you can find a firm that'll tell you the credit limit offered before you commit to it, that'll be useful.0 -
Most undertakers will work with you as long as you point to the policy upfront and explain that is the way the bill will be paid.
Is there any reason you think the payout will be delayed for months?
Lastly, if you do still want to go down the credit card route make sure the undertakers actually accept cards.0 -
Why are you meeting the funeral costs rather than they paid for out of the deceased estate?
I would expect any insurance / funeral policy to be paid out to be paid within days of the claim being made.
Was the deceased still at work - in which case a death in service payment may be made and again at least part of this may be paid immediately. Additionally some company pensions have the same facilityNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
