I can't believe how much some people are paying! £2400! £1700!

I use a local solicitor, who works from home. His fee for freehold purchase up to £750k value is £700 + VAT + any disbursements. Slightly more for leasehold.

I have used the same solicitor for many years now, and he's incredibly painstaking and thorough.

Care to recommend, my good sir?

Our last purchase was £700 region on a property value of £300k and this was a recommended independent solicitors on our cities main street.

I've PM'd you, and I'm happy to PM anyone else who is interested.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • From personal experience, I used the online firm, PLS Solicitors, 18 months ago. They were recommended by my Mortgage Lender who said that if I went with this firm there would be no fee as they are tied to the bank (Lloyds).

    I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM!

Simply Conveyancing was one of the ones that sent a quote via the estate agents for our purchase. They were a lot more expensive than the (local, but not particularly small) firm that we ended up going with, and were really invested in the fact that they have an app that you can 'follow along' with. That rubbed me the wrong way, partly because it seems like they don't want to deal with customers personally, and partly because my husband doesn't have a smartphone so I'd have to do all the work!

But what really bothered me about them was, once they had my contact details, they really hounded me. Multiple phone calls per day and when I did answer them (I couldn't answer all as I was working) they would try to start getting me set up and committed to them right away. It felt really sneaky. I had consented to the estate agent having a couple of quotes generated, but this was a bit too much for me. Maybe other people prefer this, I dunno. I don't.

We are about to complete and have been happy with the local firm we used. It's been really nice to be able to just drop off paperwork on my lunch break.
