Who will get my House?

14 Posts

I am with my partner, not married - we just had a baby together.
i own a home that i now rent to move in with my partner.
If something happened to me ( past away ) who would get my property?
will it automatic go to my child? can my partner make a claim or will it go to my family?
Will a will help? ideal i want it to go to my child.

While your child is a minor you need to appoint trustees to look after his/her interests.
What do you want to happen to your child if you and your partner died at the same time?
Your partner also needs a will for exactly the same reasons.
Ideally both! One isn’t a substitute for the other.
i will get onto making a will - to be safe.
if i was to marry, then divorce ( assuring worst case) - will my partner not get half the house even if i have a Will wishing my child to have the house?
That would be sorted out as part of the divorce settlement, not after your death.
